easyJet searches, Mirai books: two ChatGPT travel plugin models in one week
Two travel launches in ChatGPT this week show the two models brands are choosing. On October 5, 2026, easyJet announced a ChatGPT integration for flight and package-holiday search. On October 8, Mirai said it is rolling out ChatGPT plugins that let travellers book a hotel’s direct channel without leaving the conversation.
What was announced
easyJet (search, then hand off). According to easyJet and Airways Magazine’s coverage:
- Search easyJet flights and easyJet holidays packages in natural language.
- Live availability and prices, plus live flight status for upcoming trips.
- Booking continues on easyJet.com for flights and easyJet.com/holidays for packages.
That is the same shape as the Southwest plugin launched a day later: shopping in the chat, checkout on the airline’s site.
Mirai (transact in the chat). Per Mirai and Hospitality Net:
- First hotels live: Emperador and Moderno (Madrid), Porcel Hoteles (Granada), Gloria Thalasso & Hotels (Canary Islands).
- The plugins don’t copy the website into ChatGPT. They expose the booking engine’s transactional functions: availability and prices, currencies, promotions, booking, modification, and cancellation.
- They run on Mirai’s AI infrastructure and its MCP layer, the same layer behind its own assistant Sarai.
Why it matters for builders
Two plugin models, one protocol trend. easyJet and Southwest use the chat as a shop window and keep payment, seats, and extras on their own sites. Mirai, like eDreams ODIGEO on Alexa+, exposes the booking itself as tools. If you build an AI travel agent, expect both kinds of upstream partner: some give you search only, some give you a bookable MCP surface.
Post-booking actions are part of the surface. Mirai lists modification and cancellation, not just booking. An agent that can change or cancel needs the same guardrails as one that buys: show the outcome and any fee before the call, act only on an explicit yes, and make paid calls idempotent so a retry doesn’t double-charge. We cover that pattern in Build an AI travel agent that fulfills ancillaries.
What is still outside the conversation
Neither launch mentions travel insurance, eSIM data, lounge access, security fast track, or airport transfers. In the search-only model, those extras sit behind the airline’s checkout. In the transactional model, the hotel room is booked but the rest of the trip is not.
On Ancilair those extras are MCP tools you call beside whatever books the flight or room: insurance quoted against the actual trip, eSIM plans for the destination, anc.lounge.search then anc.lounge.book on a layover, plus fast track, transfers, and visa checks. Each call is priced at the supplier’s rate with 0% markup. See the travel MCP server guide and the Beside the ticket workflow.
What to watch
- Whether easyJet or Southwest move checkout into the chat, as Southwest calls this “the first step in a phased AI-powered booking approach”.
- Whether more hotel tech providers ship transactional MCP layers like Mirai’s, and whether they add services beyond the room.

Questions
- What does the easyJet ChatGPT plugin do?
- Announced on October 5, 2026, it lets travellers search easyJet flights and easyJet holidays packages with live availability and prices, and check live flight status, inside ChatGPT. Bookings are completed on easyJet.com or easyJet.com/holidays.
- What did Mirai launch?
- On October 8, 2026, Mirai began rolling out ChatGPT plugins for hotel clients including Emperador and Moderno in Madrid, Porcel Hoteles in Granada, and Gloria Thalasso & Hotels in the Canary Islands. Per Mirai, the plugins expose the hotel's direct booking engine: availability and prices, promotions, booking, modification, and cancellation, through its MCP layer.
- Do either of these plugins sell travel extras like insurance or eSIM?
- Neither announcement mentions travel insurance, eSIM, lounge access, or fast track. Check each company's own communications for later scope changes.
- Is MCP here the same as Mobile Passport Control?
- No. MCP means Model Context Protocol, the open standard for connecting AI assistants to external tools and data.
